Thank you for taking the time to look at my website, my name is Gerry Neri and I would like to ask you for your vote on November 6, 2018 for New York State Supreme Court Justice.
For the last 10 years I have sat as a Court Attorney Referee Hearing and adjudicating trials and legal matters in New York Family and Supreme Courts. I am also the a Special Counsel in the 5th Judicial District providing policy guidance and training for our Judges and Employees. As an instructor I have conducted state-wide training and legal updates for the Judiciary, Bar Associations and Law Enforcement. Prior to coming to the courts as a Trial Attorney 95% of my cases were in Supreme, Surrogate and Family Courts. In 2002 I was awarded the Hon. Michael F. Dillon Law Guardian Award by the Appellate Division Fourth Department.
At 26 years of age I was the youngest Police Chief in New York State history and served more than 20 years with the Liverpool and Syracuse Police Departments.
While raising a family and working full-time I attended college obtaining a Bachelors Degree from SUNY Utica graduating Cum Laude and a Juris Doctorate Degree from Syracuse University Law school also graduating Cum Laude.
I have also worked as a substitute teacher in the Syracuse area school districts and as an adjunct professor at Onondaga Community College.
In 1977 I began coaching Basketball in Central New York. I coached the All-Star team for Syracuse Youth Basketball, various school teams and the Syracuse Elite AAU Team. For over 32 years I have officiated high school basketball and was awarded the Certificate of Distinguish service from the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials.
I spent 13 years with the Liverpool Volunteer Fire department and Ambulance Squad.
I am the proud son of a 94 year old mother who lost her Husband and my father, a WWII veteran, when I was 4 years old. She raised our family working numerous jobs to support us during very tough times. She taught us character and work ethic. I have 5 children and 3 grandchildren who I adore.
I believe my legal background and life experiences provide the broad based skills necessary to hear the variety of cases as a Justice in New York State Supreme Court.
